Xbox 360 vs PS3

Allow me to demonstrate why Xbox is the superior system vs PS3. First of all the controller in the PS3, I don’t know how to say it… would TERRIBLE be an alarm signal for SONY? I mean how could you not see that it is terrible? Too small firstly, ask anyone, bigger and more are better. This is not one of those wierd cases where less is more, naaaa… This is the actual case where more is better. So chap chap SONY, or whoever is going to take over them. As a bit of information, my hands are normal size.

The Controller

Controller, analog thumb controllers too close, thumb fatigue, too symmetrical, leaves no room for hands relaxation. Forces the user too a limited range of use, because of the symmetry of the thumb sticks.

Forward triggers, too close to each other on each respective side. Since we have TEN fingers we would like to use as many of them as possible. So interface people take note. I use only 4 out of 10. The 6 remaining fingers get tired holding the controller in an awkward position since it is too small, lacks in girth for palm support.

Try holding the controllers while assigning 6 fingers to it and 4 just for holding so the finger assignment should be like this:

Thumbs on the sticks and index and the middle fingers on the 4 triggers. Now try to move your hands with the controller side to side over each hip, which one feels more comfortable? The XBOX controller needs improvement too. I personally think they should come in sizes, not one fits all. If a pair of running sneakers costs 50 bucks and they come in sizes, why not a controller.

Much more care should be in the design as how much dexterity people have in what fingers. So the most functionality should be added to the first 3 fingers of each hand, decrementing from thumb, index and the least should be for the middle finger.

They should come to me before taking the decision of designing a controller. :D

User friendliness and quirks

Now, how can I explain to these people that work in designing user friendly technology? It’s not user friendly, at all.!!! Every time I leave a game to return to the main menu, my TV flickers, and makes noises, annoying noises. The XBOX 360 is just so suave switching from one to another. I guess the Windows team should learn a thing or two from the XBOX OS team. Xbox can improve on the theirs, which they did ’cause I just downloaded a hole new OS the other day. Way to go SONY on the last place there. I guess is good when you let other people do the thinking for you. I see SONY is just copying the Wii’s idea blatantly, with all the new plastic toys. Way to go there buddy, Nintendo should charge some royalties there. I can gladly applaud Microsoft here for coming with their own system. Honorable thing guys!

More on the user friendliness, every time I am on a debate about this i hear that PS3 is a more powerful system, has wireless included, has this and that. But all that power but, really uncomfortable to drive the damn thing. I mean just now, I was trying to send a voice message to my buddies who all are playing Black Ops, since it the release day, and because I have that stupid looking, and so difficult to operate the official, supposedly, bluetooth headset, I wanted to send a voice message. But na-aahh, guess this one could not be stolen, ha? Or the free network doesn’t support that? Well that’s too bad. See, the PS3 is like supped up sports car, but lots of loose ends in handling. There was a plane back in the fifties I think, super fast for that time but poor handling, really short wings to generate less drag. XBOX is like a well rounded minivan that smoothly takes you there. This is not the only analogy that can be made. In addition, what will PS3 do when the new XBOX comes out, and everyone and their mother jumps on it? Oh, how I want to see the bashers then? And is not that I am a fan of one or the other, I just want improvement.

You see, I don’t usually vote, because it’s usually choosing the least worst. Is not like the candidates all have all the good attributes and I have to make up my mind, No. Is like I have to figure out who’s the least worst so it doesn’t destroy what’s left over. It seems that politics has a shortage of good people, always! Or the bad ones fight too dirty and drive them away. But with consoles, since they do satisfy some kind of need, I bought them both. One was to play games and the other is my Blue ray player.

XBOX already has the network, they have the superior OS, they have all the little quirks tight, basically they have their shit together.

In the end I will see the guy from the SONY move commercial, with his hand melting down, because Microsoft will have the last laugh on this one.

I think Apple should take on a new challenge to come up their console, and their bad-ass controller, and none of that garbage move, kinnect stuff unless is totally awesome. Google could join the fight, since they love statistics, I already have a system for them to implement. It’s a whole new network idea. I just want to see a whole new system wow me.

Apple snatched the No1 phone company from Nokia, who is perhaps alive since in Europe they’re a bit more cheap with free services, and bandwidth, but everyone there has a decent vacation time, it is understandable after all.

The challenge is open for wowing the masses.

Aaaa and one thing that I forgot, it seems that if the PS3 dies on you because of overheating, you don’t get the super extended warranty, like the XBOX ring of fire. Ouch!

Call of Duty Black Ops post 2

So it launched, I can almost see the earning charts tomorrow, with unprecedented records. Heck I was at game stop today and there was a line. When I bought MW2 the line was much smaller. And it was in the launching day as well. The concerning things was that the line at xbox 360 was considerably smaller. It is a shame since it is a superior system overall. I am sorry to say to all die hards fans out there that XBOX 360 IS THE SUPERIOR SYSTEM! We’ll argue this again in the next post.

As promised in a previous blog post I did not purchase the game. Why? Because it has become a telenovela. We were watching trailers and discussing it and I found out that one can change the red dot color in this version. I had issues with that red dot, because on desert maps I could not really see the red dot well. It seems that Infinity Ward actually listened to me, altough I never made that complaint public. I did complain about resident evil 5 with their red laser pointer, perhaps some other addict told Infinity Ward about their red dot. Finally technology of the 21st century is becomeing friendly to us people with the certain chromatic vision conditions (protanope) in this case. Now all that remains about this color issue is for CISCO, Dell and plenty more to change those dreaded amber LEDs in their crappy boxes. For the amount you pay for a CISCO switch you would expect someone to actually pay attention to these things.

I guess i’m done with COD,Counter Strike here I come… Back.

Call of Duty Black Ops

I have intensely played Call of Duty 4 Modern warfare and Modern Warfare 2. And I found my self many many times stuck in front of the TV for hours. I don’t have to mention that these games look awesome, and they are highly competitive. Because I never played the single player missions. I only played death match online.

But I came here to make my intentions public. And that is that “I will not buy COD Black Ops” It seems that these games are becoming like a telenovela. I have COD4 and 6 and that is enough. It is interesting that after the fact that Activision or whoever made a billion dollars of COD MW2, they came out with map packs on which they wanted more money. Those maps should have been like thank you gifts for the fans. Because it was us that made these games big, not them.

I can always go back to Counter Strike which seems to be still kicking some tuckus, cause there are no perks. It seems that the perks are the success and doom of COD series. In addition you can’t even build maps for COD series. Why, ’cause they want more money for their maps. Why should they allow people to build great maps and give them for free, when they can monopolize the game and make more money?

As I remember correctly there was supposed to be a map contest for COD 4, but it never came trough. I am working to turn off my reception to The Call of Duty telenovela.

Good luck to all of you addicts out there!!!

From the three devices I only tried the Nintendo Wii, and I was disappointed. It is fun but it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. I am only curious how will the other two will perform because I am a little bit skeptic. In addition I was thinking to buy the PlayStation Move but then I asked my self why would I spend money on something that is maybe 10% useful?

And I was right, is not going to be satisfactory no matter what, and is not going to be force feedback what so ever, maybe a little vibration here or there. In addition not a lot of games are going to actually work and implement very well the device. Moreover what game types will allow the user to exactly move and reproduce the moves with perfect accuracy. Because then maybe the army will be interested in some simulators for hand to hand combat, or any type of combat. These types of controllers are are just an unfinished product in a hurry to make a buck for the console manufacturers. I wonder if there is going to be any fencing games or sword fighting games that would perfectly implement the device because then there would be some vale to the product. The only problem is that fencing is not a game where you can prolong a fight for more then a minute. There the game writer are going to have a tough time making a game appealing if a fight only lasts for 30 seconds. Another good idea would be to make sword fighting games that will allow the user and the characters to use any kind of moves in play. But the parrying and the defending mechanisms are still going to just try to synchronize the fight based on timing not on real weapons touching. So it is still unsatisfactory, at least in my view.

One good application would be the 3D shooter games where one can aim the weapon at the TV screen and shoot. That would be perhaps the most benefit that one can get from these controller types. But yet the game manufacturers would have to allow complete freedom to the player. But you see allowing freedom in a game has to actually be implementing or accounted for. Is not like in reality where if you strike a rock hard enough it would break. In a game you can use 10 grenades on it and it would still be there. That is why I feel that these controllers are just a too premature attempt to real play.

But if we really want to play some war games the we should go paint balling. If we want to play some fencing then we have to take some lessons, and if we want to learn sword fighting like a samurai then we have to go take lessons.

Dead Rising 2

So … Today is the day when Dead Rising 2 is released. I have been waiting for this one for a while. I played the first Dead Rising and I loved it. There were some quirks in it but this is one of the only games that I want to play in the single player mode. On COD MW2 I didn’t even touch the single player mode. But it gets too competitive and frustrating. It is nice that Dead Rising 2 brings back the appeal of single player games. As well as Uncharted  1 and 2. These are games that you want to play at your own leisure without the frustrating competition.

I hope they added a sort of cooperative online mode or split screen or like a team of friends. It is better to cooperate than compete. It would be nice if they added some cool side missions like in Resident Evil 5. In addition it would be nice if they added some Gatling guns somewhere for a zombie, genocide, massacre,  rampage, berserk killing. So I can go Les Grossman on the zombies. I definitely expect improved weapons, remote controlled detonations, zombie explosive baits, and gazillions of side missions. I definitely want to go Zombie Land  on them. If the creators tossed some nukes in there that would be nice. I want some nice sci-fi mass genocidal weapons because this is the only way you can justify killing something. Is like the zombies are the disease and we are the anti-bodies to cure the organism.

Lets start the Zombie genocide!!!

Resident Evil 5

I just got my hands on a copy of resident Evil 5 for Xbox 720 (haaa got you) and I was very disappointed from the get go. At first I thought that I did not give enough attention and interest to the game but I just could not get to enjoy it.

I have heard from my gaming buddies that it was terrible but now I experienced it first hand and it made me agree with them. The issue here not that the actual game sucks but how is it possible to be so different from Resident Evil 4? Is it our perception, is the game so bad compared with RE4 or we just got bored with the style. I only played RE4 and the first chapter was terrible for me. But then when I got the hang of it I really enjoyed it.  Then what is the difference between the two? I am here to ask all of you because I know what my displeasures were.

First, it felt claustrophobic because you could at move almost at all. I can’t even describe it because the way one controls his character it is ass backwards. I did play RE4 before COD4 or other FPS but I readily enjoyed the moving ability in all the FPS except on RE series. It was ridiculous the way the movement was developed.

I don’t understand why I liked the RE4 and I don’t like RE5, perhaps because that was my first series of RE. Anyway the controls and movement were similar in both RE that I played and it is mind bugling that I don’t like it now. Is it the fact that I lost my patience or is it just a horrible design?

I understand that this is how RE started with shitty ass movement, but things evolve. Why did they have to be so conservative and just keep it so real? Why didn’t they implement the jumping and moving while aiming is beyond me. How hard would have that been? I guess I am hoping that someone from the game design will come and answer me on my blog… Dream on… Capcom open your eyes and years, here it comes for free, no market research no paid game testing. We don’t like to feel claustrophobic in a game. And we don’t like being frustrated either. At least me.

The fighting was terrible. First of all I don’t know if it is possible to change the color of the laser but I can’t actually see the fucking thing because it is red on a mostly yellow background, and I am protanope (Color blindness, or Color blindness, a color vision deficiency, is the inability to perceive differences between some of the colors that others …) One would expect that they would research this matter, since this is visual entertainment. The melle fighting where you have to actually hold the  knife and slice like an idiot and you cannot even turn side to side is just too insulting. In addition you have a character that has to get a queue button in order to jump from one ledge to another.  The running is just to tiring, my left thumb was hurting from trying to press that thumb stick to be able to run. I know there is another command for it but it is just too stupid. That is why these controllers have analog sticks so you give the character more speed the more you move the stick.Besides the fact that the player feels like a prisoner the game is actually tiring on one’s hands. Unbelivable.

Now a few days later when I upgraded in rank and upgraded the weapons I find the game more enjoyable. It doesn’t suck that bad. But in all above aspects it still does. In addition, the inventory is too small for all the shit that one needs with him. Playing cooperatively also sucks because one cannot exchange weapons with his partner, at least I tryied and it did not work. I guess they did not think about that stuff. Capcom just did not have it this time. In rest the game has the graphics, and the cut scenes, sometimes a bit too long  and too many. I started enjoying it a bit the second or day of playing. As a last thing I just want to say that they did add some speed to the zombies but none to the characters so it seems a bit unfair.

The best part of the game is the slaughter, and the fun part is that the zombies don’t reappear like in Dead Rising. That was the most disappointing thing because it gives a feeling of wiping out all the work you did killing all of them. Perhaps they will implement a better algorithm on that.

I guess that a second day of playing answered my own puzzle why I liked RE4 and not 5. Well, I din’t like any of them at the begining. So I guess is still an ok game, but it should have been improved on the movement and aiming.  Also so far I did not find any treasures that can be combined, I hope they didn’t elimate that feature.

XBOX 360 vs PS3 addition

Sometime ago I did a rudimentary comparison between XBOX and PS3. This is a small addition to that.

You cannot play a cooperative game with two profiles on the same console, like a split screen thing. I tried this with COD WAW and I gave up pretty quickly when I could not find it. On Xbox I tried wit Resident Evil 5 and it worked like a charm. I also did it on Fight Night 3. I guess that is another mistake for PS3.

This is where the experience shows. MS is a software company and I can see that they have a superior OS on Xbox. Sony built a monster power but their OS is lacking.

XBOX 360 vs PS3

I have been dragged in this by my colleagues who have PS3s. They kneeled by them and they pledged their undying love and allegiance from the first day they acquired them. Over time I found the excuse in the blue ray player to buy myself one too. Since then I had countless discussions about which of the two systems is better.

I am going to list a series of problems with the systems so everyone will be in the know.

HARDWARE CONFIGURATION:

The PS3: Wireless capabilities out of the box, blue ray player, faster CPU, and HDMI. I don’t want to hear comments that some Xboxes come with HDMI now, mine doesn’t have one.
The XBOX loses the hardware aspect compared with PS3 especially that ALL Xboxes get the ring of fire and they have to be shipped for repairs.

The controllers are for both OK. I tend to like better the Xbox controller because is larger and feels more comfortable in my hands.

SOFTWARE CAPABILITIES:

The PS3: The ability to install a Linux based OS like Yellow dog Linux, or Ubuntu gives the PS3 a big plus, especially that you can use Linux to rip Blue-Ray DVDs. PS3 also has the Home game, a social type a game that players can meet and chat online, which diversifies the software capabilities out of the box for PS3. Also the PS3 network added that world news and weather feature. The protein folding is good but it should be made so that the ps3 launches it as a screensaver when idle, and it should be able to run in the background when we are watching a movie, but is not. Because I am not willing to let my PS3 running, which is a power hungry monster, just for Folding@home.

The XBOX: On the software side the XBOX OS is much finer tuned than the PS3. The transitions from the OS to the game is done smooth and without sound glitches or screen flickers. The fade in and out from game to OS and vice versa are perfect. The glitches are noticeable on the PS3 for people that use the HDMI feature. The XBOX allows for background downloads whereas the PS3 doesn’t and it is annoying to wait there for fifteen minutes until a random game download finishes.

ONLINE :

From the online game mode the XBOX live is superior to PS3 network because of quality. In the first place the headset dialogues are much clearer on Xbox live. On PS3 the dialog is constantly breaking up. The draw back on XBOX live would be the fee, but really analyzing this feature I really wish that PS3 would have a monthly fee if their network quality would become superior. In addition the Netflix feature with Xbox live really kicks ass with the exception that Netflix has mostly shitty movies on instant watch. Maybe we will see a Blockbuster and Sony coalition.

Another thing that the PS3 seems to have better than the XBOX is the new type of controller similar to the wii-mote. I know that the XBOX project Natal looks good but I doubt that it really works. And I really hated the British commentator the way he was glorifying that little virtual boy like it was the “Never Ending Story”, fuck that. In addition the demo videos they had with the games where the whole family is part of one game, seems like a lot of BS. Because I am not willing to wait there until my friend enters the pit stops so I can change the tires. That’s silly.

Games I would Like to play.

Hey you all game addicts out there, if you have 60 seconds for waste just place a comment with games you would like to be out right now so you could play them. There are no rules to this questionnaire, you just ramble which games you would like to see even if they don’t exist.

I for example, I would like to play first GUN 2 from Neversoft, Diablo 3, and Dead Rising 2. The bad part is that on GUN 2 there are no news, there is only one poster with “GUN 2″ in another game from Neversoft. A quick search “on the defacto search engine” gives a few speculative results but nothing concrete. Maybe all the Gun2 fans should come together and post a website only for GUN 2. Perhaps this would be the only feedback that will determine the producers to take action.

Everyone who has played Diablo knows that Diablo3 is still in developing and finishing stages. There are plenty of videos online with about the game play.

Dead Rising 2 has its own website developed by fans, I think, therefore if all the fans of GUN should come together and put a site online for GUN 2, maybe we’ll get some results.

Therefore all you maniacs out there that read this, express your wishes. You do know by now that someone is always listening.

Diablo 3, pretty awesome looking…

I only played Diablo 2 and I loved it. After I finished it, I went back and started a few different characters. I was so hooked on it, that I even started looking for cheats and I found some good ones out there. With these cheats I could edit the hero’s profile and jack it up. I made one of my characters so powerful, that the game started crashing. The weapons and armors had dozens of sockets filled with  amulets that had all possible attributes, that’s how much I played that game.

One of my friends mentioned it, and I started thinking about the third version. I found plenty of material on YouTube and it just looks awesome. I just can’t wait for it to come out. Maybe I’ll pull a “Cartman” one. Get frozen until the game release, the bad part is that there is no release date and my cryogenic experience would be indefinite. This game was so good that even my girlfriend that hated all games, period, got so hooked to it that she was losing nights over it to finish it. This was the only game she ever played. So it is that good.
Here is a game play preview, and of course there are plenty online.

KILLZONE 2

After sinking into the game I started feeling like a close encounter with Gears of War. I guess PS3 had to have its own exclusive counter attack to Gears of War. From the moment the game starts you get swept into an intro movie. We are introduced to Rico and Sev (Sev being your character).  The character’s facial expressions, interaction and sounds are well developed and synchronized. If you can’t make the difference or you don’t have a reference video, look at Quake 4 for XBOX 360 cut scenes videos, then you’ll understand the difference in acting and the lack of expression in dialogs. The KILLZONE2 intro movie is EXCELLENT, it transcends the gamer smoothly into the action. All the cut scenes and dialogs are well developed and acted troughout the game. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the writing is either perfect, or lacking, it is a matter of taste and I would’ve preffered more cut scenes.  There is some character development in the game but I feel that Rico changes too much from the intro movie. In the intro movie he seemed like a cool guy, but his tone seems to change.  There were a few jokes that made the game somewhat more relaxed and fun. I can’t stop about the quality of the acting, it is esquisite. In Quake 4 for Xbox you could see the unnatural acting immediately.

THE GAMEPLAY:

On of the most annoying parts of the game was the viewing angle. I am not sure why would they choose a narrow angle but I as if I was wearing blinders. In addition it felt very claustrophobic throughout the game because this viewing narrow angle. It may have been my impression, but it seemed different than most of the 3D shooters I have played. This is strictly on the viewing angle. None of the games experienced before gave that narrow angle feeling. Perhaps the authors wanted to set this claustrophobic mood, but it hindered the game play, at least for me. This is my pure observing view and I did not read any literature on the game engine, therefore take it lightly on the viewing angle.

The fast running did not allow the character to turn and it did not make a lot of sense, especially that most of the time the fights are in close narrow streets and corridors with plenty of obstacles where one would need some maneuverability.

An addition to the uncomfortable features of the game is the click -to-lock aiming where one has to click and unclik to aim and release instead of holding and releasing the button. Also the knife mode was lacking. The knife mode was better in other games where the hero switches automatically between knife and weapon on the press of a button. The good part of the knife attack is that the player can use it continuously with repetitive blows, with no dead time in between hits. In addition the character’s height was not all there. It seemed that he was shorter than everyone else, if one pays attention will notice that the hero’s line of sight is to all the surrounding people’s chest. It is really bad, it felt like a midget. That was also bad when trying to shoot from high points, because the ledge would be too high and one could not see past it. This game was anticipated to be very real and well thought out, especially after they postponed the release date. But there are a lot of things that really become hindrances. The running and the shaking of the camera is not really cool. I guess they picked the wrong battles to fight when it comes to reality.  Also there was a technological gap. The helgan colonel had that invisibility ability that no one else has, therefore it doesn’t make a lot of sense. When at war for survival, one would use anything to win, Is not like those pretext wars just to make more money, it seems that the Helgans really needed to win, and more soldiers should have been equipped with that invisibility ability. Moreover the Helgans still had firearms at the same time they had a lightning bolt weapons and invisibility? That seems a bit farfetched. Therefore for the technology portrayed in both camps, the weapons should have been at least like the ones in the movie Alien2. Even today we have those prototype weapons that have no recoil (look up metalstorm). For that technological era the guns were a bit disappointing. And by the way the game was extremely short.

And now the good part:

I guess for a short game like that it means the effort went into details. One of such details are excellent graphics. From the details of the graphics POV, lots kudos to the team, the ending movie, BADASS. Music was also good throughout the game, although I did not pay attention to all of it, but whenever I would surface my attention from the struggles of war I noticed some good tunes. Story line was ok for a short game. I was close to the end in seven hours on moderate level, which is not too long of a game, Uncharted was longer than that.

From the technical point of view I can say about the weapon melee attack that is better than most of the games because it is repetitive, one can just continue hitting the enemy if the first blow fails or misses. In addition the way that they made use of the SIXAXIS was pretty nifty. When one uses a sniper rifle he should not move the controller, because it messes up the aiming (like moving your body or breathing). Moreover when placing charges for demolition one needs to use the SIXAXIS to activate them. Another good feature was the lack of weird monsters and other failed genetic experiments or farfetched and unrealistic plots. They kept it simple. The Helgan infantry weaponry was pretty nice. It had all kinds of firearms, and the nicest one was the lightning gun.

As for the online mode I cannot tell too much since I only played it for 10 minutes and I switched back to the single player missions.

Overall was an ok game, the graphics were excellent but then again this is 2009 and the PS3 has an amazing chip inside, moreover PC games now have physics, where to my understanding anything is destroyable. Perhaps the next generation consoles could be equipped with these chips. If it wasn’t for all the above mentioned shortcoming then I would’ve felt differently about it. Or maybe I am just too focused on the shortcoming than the achievements. But I have played games where I really liked the entire game from A to Z. One such game was GUN from Neversoft. Therefore I am not impossible to please.

Lego Star Wars II The Original Trilogy, PSP

Lego Star Wars PSP

Being a big fan of Star Wars this was a cant miss for me.  However, in my opinion anyone who plays this will love it.  You ARE the star wars cast… But, you are in lego form.  Your mission is to learn the force and defeat the empire.  You will use any means necessary, this means constructing objects out of legos to get to the proper locations.  The game is outrageous fun, you will be laughing at the responses from your lego characters as you move forward throughout the star wars movie.  The plot of the game coincides with Movies 4, 5, and 6 so If you’ve seen the movies, it would help you along the way.  The best part about it as you progress you obtain new characters, and these new characters can unlock secret parts of the previously played boards.  So, even after you have completed the game you can go back and discover new items on each and every board.

Rating 8.5/10

Daxter, PSP

Daxter PSP

A few minutes into Daxter and I was curious whether or not I would enjoy this game.  It seemed very childlike and kiddy at the moment.  However, the gameplay is so amazing you forget your job is to kill bugs.  Daxter is based off of the hit game Jak and Daxter.  In this PSP exclusive game your job is to complete missions in which you must exterminate several buildings.  Along the way your true mission will arise as you must rescue Jak from prison.  Along the way several new and very fun ideas were created to make this game very enjoyable.  If you own a PSP this is a MUSTPLAY.

Rating: 9/10

Gun the game from NeverSoft

Over the weekend I have returned to an old game, GUN. I received this game as a gift from my cousin last year and I did enjoy it more than most games I have ever played. If it was after me this is the game that I would want to play as an MMORPG. I returned to this game to get the last four achievements.

I was going for the professional prospector achievement and I had to look around a lot for that leftover gold. So I mounted the horse and started galloping. Once I got the hang of the map I just started roaming it and I realized that this was one of the reasons that I really liked the game that much. The ability to roam the land back and forth faded away that feeling of constraint that I usually get when playing any kind of game. What I mean is that usually in most games you have only one way to get to a destination or from A to B. In this game you have multiple paths that you can use to go for example between Dodge City and Empire City. Of course that this comes after you repel the Indians and the bridge is finished so you can get out of Dodge. This alone made the game much more appealing than most others I’ve played. Then the openness of the terrain added to that lack of constraint.

Another was the landscape. I liked the landscape because it had all forms of relief and I could travel them. Another aspect of the game that I liked was that it was bright. Yes bright, there were no gruesome monsters no dark corners and no scaring the player shitless.

The western background sound with the openness and the bright sky gave me a feeling of serenity despite the fact this game is a western and you have to kill people.

Another important part of the game were the side missions which further strengthened the feeling of being unconstrained by the game because you had the choice to do something else than the main mission of the game. The side missions allow your stats to get higher and you also make money with which you can buy upgrades to your guns. There was also the random bandit attack that you encounter when traveling in between settlements. Or if you were really bored you could start a town brawl. Other nice feature was the poker game that you could get into and make some money.

The voice over acting was perfect, I really suspended my disbelief and just got swept into the game.

The details of graphics weren’t great but all other things compensated and I did not even notice the graphics, or lack of.

My favorite part of the game play was the human shield and the slow motion shooting. You could grab someone from behind and hold him in front of you and you could shoot enemies. In the slow motion everyone slows down and you tap left or right and your character auto aims on the enemies that move slow.

I really hope that they will come up with a second GUN but with a lot more side missions and more options like subdue the enemy or kill him, or just drag it with your horse taking him to jail kicking him and so many more others.

I am just hoping for a second one, or an MMORPG GUN.

COD4 Variety Map Pack

Hello boys and girls, good news, the variety pack has been released and it is being played as we speak. I had to have the variety pack, so I did spend the 800 MS points on it. The download was around 440 MB and it was done in like 10-15 minutes. Now it depends on everyone’s connection type how long the download will take.

What I liked

My favorite map of all is Creek. I played Chinatown couple of times and Broadcast but the best map to my taste remains Creek. All three maps are very large and make it very difficult to fight against a well organized team. I liked creek because it has some barns and rubbled houses but also has the river valley that enables the snipers and players to kill each other. There is a lot of nature that allows people to blend in with it so the game play is more fun for all players. This is especially when you are on the winning team :) .

What I disliked

As I was playing I realized that I spent around $10 and I only got three maps or four. One of which I know for sure it was already in the game so it did not had to be designed from scratch. I am not sure about Creek or Chinatown because I never got that far in the game, but for $10 we could’ve got more maps.

I went on their web site and there is no information about the results of the map contest. Therefore I do not know if any of the maps are made by the community or not. So, I guess that we will have to continue waiting to see if the contest is finished or not. Normally those maps should be free.

Gameplay

All the maps in the pack are large and it is very easy to get killed because there are too many angles from where you can get shot. Both maps Broadcast and Chinatown have a lot of corners from where one can get killed easily. I played against an organized team and they pinned us down in a grass area in Chinatown and would not let us move. We suffered major ownage. They were smart about it because after they pinned us down they did not come in, they kept their distance and we kept re-spawning in the same area so they could pick us up from a distance.

In Creek happened too, because they were organized and well balanced and no one left on their own to get more kills. After they would die they would come back and reclaim the same position. This is how one team can win easily, but they need patience and discipline to be able to resist the temptation to rush in. That is why some times half way trough the death match game, after killing a lot of opponents I found my self loosing by 10-20 kills because of inexperienced players that want to get that frag badly, and rush in.

In the end after getting pissed that I kept ending up in the loosing team I went back to the regular maps that I knew better and gained my pride back by going on couple of killing sprees. Next, I was thinking to start designing some maps maybe I will get a better job, designing games, that is probably only if I could stop playing them so intently.

All right people have a good week and don’t quit your daily jobs because of games.
