Batchelor Party Tom Hanks 1984

I just recently reviewed Bachelor Party 1984 – Tom Hanks, Adrian Zmed and Tawny Kitaen. When I first saw this movie I was maybe 10 and it was excellent. It has happened rarely for me to enjoy the same movie as a child and adult. But this one was excellent in both instances.

Am not sure how much the actors had to improvise but they did a great job. Tom Hanks’ character was really well written and we can see his determination to get married despite all the negative information he received from friends and foes.

It is a shame that we don’t live in those times again. If you read between the lines you can see that many social traits were different. It seems that people were more relaxed about many things then.

Today every step or move its a felony, or some type of crime blown out of proportion that endangers the core of society as we know it, basically an apocalypse.

LED TV, About LED TV, LED TV Technology

I don’t own a LED TV yet, but I watched a few movies and I got to say that the image quality is excellent. But, of course there is a always a but.

I noticed that movies don’t look like they used to look on regular LCDs or CRTs. I have assisted to discussion among friends abut this phenomena and no one had an idea what it was. Well I am coming to demystify this matter.

Movies are usually viewed at 24p, this means that the movies instead of using the 29.97 fps they use 24 fps. But it seems that these new LED TVs somehow alter the fps and convert the signal to 29.97 fps. After a further discussion with my friends we ended up talking about the 120 Hz refresh rate, maybe that is the cause of this effect. In addition I noticed that at every cut scene the images flicker and the TV it seems to be buffering to adjust and playback at 29.97 fps. It seems that all movies look like the behind the scenes cut. The film look is lost, along with the “suspension of disbelieve”.  Now with these TVs I can actually leave the movie behind, and flip trough channels. It seems that the Film Look is not in effect and you can’t be suspended in time with the story. Also the acting seems a bit forced. Usually bad actors are more evident.

No matter what the real reason is behind this issue, these TVs are going to break the movie addiction. People are going to start reading books, the economy is going to be restored to complete harmony, wars will end. The food is going to be produced organically, cancer will disappear, and the society will revert to its true origin. Harmony!

Monsters, Inc.

I just watched this movie again. I watched this movie like 7-8 years ago, but now it was totally different. It was much better than 8 years ago. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it then too, but now I looked at it more mature and I could see more details in the movie. I could see more of the character development and their interrelationships.

It seems that not a lot of people have seen this movie. It seems that the movie didn’t get the attention for its caliber. This is one of the greatest animations, and is not because the quality of the images, it is because the quality of the story, acting, and the good feeling that leaves you with at the end.

P.S. Don’t forget to watch the credits, really funny.

This title may not make a lot of sense to you , but  I had to write just as is. I am a movie buff, I usually watch every movie more than once, and therefore I remember most of the scenes. Last night I was watching Tombstone, great movie. I did see this movie two times before and I enjoyed a lot, only this time I have seen it on a DVD made in US. The previous instances I have seen it on a European TV channel. I am not sure how many of you have seen this movie, but the US-DVD version is incomplete. This is not the first time I notice this, I have seen it in many instances when I rented DVD’s from Blockbuster or purchased DVD’s.
In Tombstone the version that I watched in Europe had all the scenes, and it seemed complete. In US-DVD version there are a boat load of missing scenes, which the movie lack continuity. For example, at the beginning of the movie Curt Russell is invited by the actress to dance, that scene is missing from the DVD. Moreover, there is another scene where one of the cowboys kills the old marshal when he was asking for his guns.

About 4 years ago I purchased The Lawnmower Man on DVD on the box it said Unrated. I believed to be the complete movie, but when I started viewing the movie I realized that there were missing scenes also. In addition I wanted to review Basic Instinct and that too had missing scenes. I don’t understand why they cut important scenes form movies here. It is just crazy.
I started looking into it and it becomes more chaotic, they release the Director’s cut, the unrated cut, the producer’s cut, this drives me insane.  Why don’t they just make a movie and stick with the god damn thing? In addition now they come out with alternate endings. What the hell is that? Is like I am customizing my own movie, and I get the final outcome to suit my moral and viewing pleasure. To me is like that scene in Analyze this, where Billy Crystal gets that huge fountain that contrasts his suburban house, is of poor taste. People, get to a compromise and stick with it!!! I don’t need alternative endings and director’s cut,  and all other stupid crap. How would it feel seeing Heat with a different ending where let’s say Al Pacino let’s DeNiro get away and everything is fine and dandy? Or some cheesy ending where Al Pacino get’s half of the loot and they remain friends for life and their wives exchange cooking recipes over the phone and they send their kids at the same camp or they go in vacations together?

Moreover, when I buy a DVD I feel cheated because either not all the scenes are there, or it has a different ending and so on. It would feel like in those silly movies where some kid pees his pants in his sleep and then being late for school shows up to school all stained and smelly.
I am really pissed. It was enough the twelve years of communist censorship. Back then people had to fight or go through tremendous efforts to get a piece of real literature that wasn’t filtered or censored. Now being in US where everything is supposed to be wide open, it enrages me when I see that measly DVD is censored. Maybe people that went trough that 1984 type of experience would identify better with my frustration. I remember the felling when my parents were looking for some books, and I could see the glitter in they’re eyes when they would hear that a certain book has the authors original thought and it hasn’t been altered.

A few times we had a heated debate about trilogies. I am a Matrix fan the whole series not only the first movie. However my colleagues did not like the second and third part, they liked only the first Matrix. It is not only that they disliked it it is the fact that they say that the second and third were stupid. I strongly have to disagree with them. I even tried to explain the parts that they said that were stupid. Eventually I started taking shots at their beloved Star Wars which I did like the whole series not just the first or 5th episode. In general I do watch a lot of movies I even watch the same movie like 2 or more times. You can imagine that I have seen the Matrix all three of them at least 5 times each.

I just need other opinions from whomever might stumble upon the page. The question is are the Matrix haters or the Star Wars haters or the Lord of the Rings haters thick minded or stubborn when they hate one movie over the other? I mean I have seen all the three trilogies and I did like them all, unlike the haters. I do recognise that my favorite one is the Matrix. So what do you guys think are the haters thick minded or stubborn, or are they putting their trilogy on a pedestal at the expense of the others. Harry Potter lovers can join too and rant or say whatever they need to say.

Harry Potter

We were talking about movies in the office and we drifted to Harry Potter. I think this is a good movie but the main character has no set of skills it seems that he is not fully developed. I haven’t read the books and I don’t care for, but the series up to five suck because this kid has no skill set. You have this wizard who is supposedly the greatest wizard of all time but throughout the entire series he is using only two three spells. And those he only uses once or twice per movie. On top of that the spells he uses are the lamest in the set with the exception of that dementors deterrent.

I mean this guy is going to a wizard school for the past what, 6 years and the only things he learned is three spells? Give me a break. The main character has no action, he just runs around with his “wee wee” wand.

I did like the world and all the ins and outs of the movie but the main hero’s action was nothing. In all other movies you have a final showdown where you see main hero display his abilities. Mr Potter for the past five movies he learns how to hold the wand. When I was in high school I knew more than 3 formulas. I am not talking about anything else just the main character’s story. Very Poor.
